The Energetic Aspect of Organic Wastes Addition on Sewage Sludge Anaerobic Digestion: A Laboratory Investigation

One of the possibilities to achieve energy neutrality wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is implementation anaerobic co-digestion strategy. However, a key factor in its successful on technical scale application components with complementary composition sewage sludge (SS). In 7resent study, influence adding various co-substrates balance digestion was evaluated. The following organic wastes were used as additional SS: fraction municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and distillery spent wash (DW) applied two- three-component systems. experiments performed semi-flow reactors volume 40 L under mesophilic conditions (35 °C) at hydraulic retention time (HRT) 20, 18, 16 d. substrates SS resulted enhancements methane yields compared mono-digestion. statistically significant differences observed tertiary mixtures both HRT 18 Therein, average values 0.20 0.23 m3 kg−1VSadd d, respectively.
